Candidate Statement:

Dear NAMSS Colleagues,

My name is Amy Lyons, and I am grateful to be considered as a candidate for the position of Secretary-Treasurer on the NAMSS Board of Directors.

I have nearly three decades of experience as a Medical Services Professional (MSP).  My journey in the MSP field began back in late 1994 as a temporary employee in a Credentials Department with a health plan. Since that time, I have had the privilege of working in a number of diverse roles as an MSP including working in managed care, physician organizations, and hospitals, all of which have given me perspective into the evolving roles and challenges of MSPs.

Early on in my career, I found NAMSS and it has had a transformative impact on me. From educational sessions to networking opportunities, NAMSS has provided me with invaluable tools and support that have truly propelled my growth and development from that temporary staff member to my current role as a Vice President over Medical Staff Services.

Over the years, I have embraced opportunities to become more involved as a volunteer leader. I have had the privilege of serving with my state association when I was in Oregon, then with NAMSS as committee member, moving into the role of chair of the NAMSS Conference Committee. Most recently, I have served in the role as a Director- at-Large board member.

Throughout my career, I have demonstrated a steadfast commitment to excellence, integrity, and collaboration. I have spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at streamlining processes, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring compliance with ever-evolving healthcare environment. My leadership style emphasizes transparency, accountability, and inclusivity, fostering a culture of trust and teamwork among colleagues.

If elected as Secretary Treasurer, I pledge to bring the same level of dedication and passion to serving the members of NAMSS. I believe in the power of effective communication, strategic planning, and prudent financial management to drive organizational success. I am committed to honoring our vast experience and history with a focus on the future.  I intend to do so by listening to the diverse voices within our community, advocating for your interests, to ensure that NAMSS continues to thrive as the premier professional association for MSPs.

I am passionate about representing our community and advocating for the future of our profession. With your vote, I am eager to continue to contribute my experience, dedication, and vision to NAMSS.

Thank you for considering my candidacy. I would be honored to have the opportunity to serve you.

Director-At-Large Candidates

Three positions will be elected, each with three-year terms from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027.

Candidates are listed in alphabetical order below.

Danielle Morgan, CPCS, CPMSM

Director, Medical Staff Services

Monument Health

Rapid City, SD

Candidate Statement:

Dear NAMSS Members:

I humbly request your consideration for a Director at Large position on the NAMSS Board of Directors.  When I began my career as a Medical Staff Assistant in 2010, I had no idea about the career and all that it includes.  Medical Staff Services is its own entity.  I walked in not knowing what I did not know but eager to learn and understand more.  Throughout my career, I have continued to learn and grow, earning my Associates in Healthcare Administration, Bachelors in Psychology (because you can always learn more about people), and a Master’s in Business Administration with an emphasis in Health System Management while working full-time.  Additionally, I received my CPCS and CPMSM Certifications along the way.  Luckily for me, learning never ends.  I have had great pleasure in serving on the Alaska Association of Medical Staff Professionals (AKAMSP) since October 2017.

The level of professionalism and drive toward fulfilling our #1 responsibility to protect patients continues to impress me.  Life as an MSP is an amazing adventure that continues to push me outside my comfort zone.  While I complete my term as Past President on June 30, 2024, I would like to continue to promote the furtherment and growth of our profession by highlighting the unlimited talent and skills of the MSP who work so hard to protect patients and serve the Medical Staff.  We need to ensure our voices are heard when important decisions relating to healthcare are being discussed.  In serving as your Director at Large, I hope to continue to serve as a role model to other young MSPs, provide education, serve a liaison to the State Associations, and support and promote NAMSS participation and growth.  Thank you for your consideration and for the opportunity to serve you.

Michelle Pasco, CPMSM, CPCS

Director, Medical Staff Services

Saint Agnes Medical Center

Fresno, CA

Candidate Statement:

My Name is Michelle Pasco and I have been working in the Medical Staff field for over 18 years, during which time I have developed a passion for leadership and education. Working as a Medical Staff Professional is my calling and I love nothing more than being an advocate for all those that work in the Medical Staff Services industry. In 2013, I was elected to serve on the Board of the California Association of Medical Staff Services.  Since that first election, I have served in multiple roles on the Board, including President-Elect, President and most recently as the Secretary of the organization. I obtained my CPMSM Certification in 2012 and my CPCS in 2020, during the height of the pandemic.  In addition, while working from home during the pandemic, I made the decision to go back to school and get my Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, which I was able to achieve in May 2022. It wasn’t long after that I knew I wanted to serve in a different role in the Medical Staff Services industry. I have been mentored by so many great leaders and I saw a very clear path to being able to one day work as a Director and mentor others.   So when Saint Agnes Medical Center offered me the position of Director of Medical Staff Services, the same hospital that started my career in healthcare, to say I was honored is an understatement.

In my new role, I am challenged every day, but I find such joy in this role and I can’t imagine being anywhere else.  My passion for the Medical Staff services profession has driven my desire to participate at both the state and national level in advocating for the importance of the Medical Staff Services Profession and having an opportunity to give back to others. My term on the CAMSS Board ended in May 2023, which was bittersweet as I strongly believe in the mission of CAMSS and did not want to stop working with them.  However, this has now opened up the opportunity for me to start my journey to serving on the NAMSS Board in the role of Director at Large. I am excited about the potential opportunity to represent all Medical Staff Professionals at the National Level and to have NAMSS Leadership be part of my legacy. I hope that you will give me the opportunity to represent our members as Director at Large in 2025.

Karen Reed-Coffman, MBA, CPMSM, CPCS, FMSP

Stormont Vail Health

Topeka, KS

Candidate Statement:

To My Fellow NAMSS Members:

I would like the honor and privilege to serve my fellow Medical Services Professionals as a Director at Large.  I am asking you my fellow NAMSS Members to consider me for a DAL position. This profession has no bounds and has the opportunity to continue to grow in respect and responsibility throughout the different work environments of MSPs is limitless.  I would like the opportunity to serve you.

I was selected as the Subject Matter Expects (SMEs) for Certification Commission of NAMSS (CCN) in 2014 and have served in various test development activities through Jan. 2023.  I have a strong commitment and enthusiasm  of the NAMSS certifications programs.  I have shared my knowledge and mentored peers during various test development activities. I try to lead by example through my professional growth and self-improvement, obtaining the NAMSS Leadership Certificate in 2019. While serving as a CCN board member, I received the Credentialing Specialist Certificate in 2021 from Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE). As a leader in the certification industry, obtaining the certificate from ICE enhanced my knowledge and leadership with the certification programs. I am a recipient of the Golden Key Award for my dedication and commitment to the programs.  During my tenure with CCN, I was elected as the CPMSM® Test Development Sub-Chair.   I have shared my passion for personal and professional growth through self-improvement with my fellow MSPs through publications. The first article, “Aspire for More” in NAMSS Synergy article outlines how individuals who did not pass the certification exam the first time can excel to the CCN board member; from a switchboard to the Director of Medical Staff.  Encouraging future candidates were the inspiration of – “Dream big, do the work, and you can reach your goals”.   In my “Golden Key Award” article, I outlined the eligibility of the award and reminded my fellow MSPs to be a cheerleader of their certifications. In 2016, I obtained my Master’s Degree in Business Administration.  In 2021, I was awarded the KAMSS, Excellence in Service Award for my work to toward the contribution to or support of the state or National Association goals of Professionalism, Advocacy, Organizational Strength, Education and Standard Setting.

I have co-presented at the 45th NAMSS Annual Conference and 47th NAMSS Annual Conference. The presentation “We Together” stated the communication and collaboration among leaders to enhance the outcome of the challenging multi-systems organizations.  The presentation “Tying it Together, Quality,  Patient Safety, & Peer Review”  was looking at the punitive peer review process and moving to an educational process with improvement in patient safety and quality.  I enjoy mentoring and educating others MSPs, fostering the importantance of knowledge, personal and professional growth. As the past president for Kansas Association of Medical Staff Services (KAMSS) and a CCN leader, I believe I have demonstrated strong leadership skills. As a fellow MSP, my accomplishments, dedication, and strong dedication to this profession, I hope to inspire others and for myself to become a better servant leader.
